Chiropractic

sChiropractic involves the treatment of the joints of the body, especially the spine, to increase their mobility and health. This is achieved by creating motion in the joints with either a joint manipulation or a mobilization. At this clinic the procedure is performed in conjunction with a combination of therapies designed to treat and relax the muscles around the joints also.

Common questions around Chiropractic include;

What is the cracking sound?

That sound is a gas called nitrogen that makes a popping sound when a joint is manipulated. The gas is normal and is present in the fluid which bathes and nourishes the cartilage around the joint.

Does a manipulation hurt?

In most cases a manipulation is painless. If a spinal joint is particularly stiff some discomfort may be felt. In most cases very stiff joints will be mobilized gently to produce motion before a manipulation will be considered.

Is it safe?

Yes, the procedure is very safe when properly applied by a trained chiropractor. There are some risks associated with the procedure in certain patients. All practitioners are required to undergo extensive training in risk management, and after 5 years of university study are well qualified to diagnose a patient and make a decision if the procedure is not suitable.

What ages can you treat?

Chiropractors treat patients of all ages. At the Dingley Chiropractic Centre we treat babies from a few days old to people in there nineties!! A range of very gentle procedures can be used to create joint motion and help turn a stiff painful joint into a mobile, pain free one.

Do I have to keep coming back?

Not at all. Each person requires a different amount of care. Some patients can be treated very quickly, and require very little therapy. Other patients have more complex problems and require longer periods of therapy. Patients with demanding jobs or lifestyles, and those with a history of recurring pain often find that regular care enables them to live their life more fully and in less pain. The choice of what type of care you desire is always yours.
